West, who represented Florida’s 22nd District from 2011 to 2013 and is a regular on Fox News, addressed an array of current issues to an audience packed inside the Newberry Hall on Wednesday afternoon. Gordon said he was excited the Club was hosting West because he’s a man who takes positions, stands by them and makes no apologies.

“(Lt.) Col. West is a strong conservative,” Gordon said. “He tells Americans the truth, and that’s refreshing in today’s world.”

West discussed his Guardian Fund, an effort to send more military and minority conservatives to Washington, D.C. West said there needs to be a stronger effort in strategically building this country’s military. He stated common defense, the protection of one’s country against foreign attack, should be a priority.
